Waterfowler
I love all things water.
Being a waterfowler melds my passions of wind, water, companionship, shooting, and culinary adventures. The sound of wind rushing through the primaries, secondaries and coverts of a fully committed flock of ring necks over hand carved decoys makes me shutter as much today as it did the first time I heard it. The steam that comes off the water in the morning, or the texture of the waves when the wind comes out of the north in November gives me greater chills of excitement than that of cold. The companionship of having my Chesapeake Bay Retriever at my side, as eager for the next volley as he is for the post hunt nap on the couch is without compare. And the shooting, not to kill out of greed or blood sport, but for the necessity of completing the sequence of the hunt. Lastly, the culinary adventure, because we need to eat and it’s delicious! Preparing the fowl also introduces people whom maybe have never hunted or experienced eating wild game; which is a duty all outdoorsman and woman should pass on to help keep our heritage in tact for generations to come.
